Chinese Firms Rush to Pledge Millions as Hong Kong Fire Death Toll Climbs to 55

A growing wave of support has emerged in the wake of one of Hong Kong’s deadliest residential fires ever recorded. After flames ripped through the 8-block Wang Fuk Court estate in Tai Po — leaving 55 people confirmed dead and hundreds unaccounted for — numerous mainland Chinese companies and foundations have pledged millions in cash and resources to aid recovery and support victims

In a coordinated relief effort, major firms such as Anta Group, 361 Degrees, Tencent, Xiaomi, and others have offered substantial contributions in cash and essential supplies. For example, Anta Group committed HK$30 million, while 361 Degrees pledged HK$15 million.

Beyond corporate donations, charitable organizations have also stepped forward. The China Red Cross has allocated funds toward rescue and relief efforts — underscoring a broader mobilization to support survivors, displaced residents, and emergency responders.

Officials continue to urge rapid and comprehensive aid. As the fire — which began on scaffolding wrapping the buildings during renovation — raises critical questions about construction safety, authorities say the funds and supplies will help address immediate humanitarian needs: shelter, medical care, and community support for residents traumatized by the blaze
