World Speedway Invitational is set to rev up southern California once again

this time at the legendary Industry Hills Speedway (City of Industry). The event marks a major gathering of top-tier riders from the United States and Europe in a rare head-to-head showcase of the sport’s very best.

A unique spectacle of motorcycle speedway

  • This one-night format brings together 16 of the fastest racers in the world — six of them from Europe and ten from the U.S. — to compete on a 1/8-mile bullring inside the covered hilltop arena.
  • Racing on 500 cc machines with no brakes and minimal gears, the action is visceral: sideways slides, dirt flying, and a format that keeps every heat packed with intensity.

The lineup: Europe versus USA

On the international side, the field features heavyweights such as:

  • Artem Laguta (Poland) — 2021 FIM Grand Prix World Champion and multiple Speedway of Nations winner.
  • Maciej Janowski (Poland) — Former Under-21 world champion and Grand Prix winner.
  • Andžejs Ļebedevs (Latvia) — Two-time European champion and ranked among the world’s top riders.

From the U.S. side:

  • Billy “The Kid” Janniro — The most successful rider in AMA speedway history with multiple national titles.
  • Broc Nicol — Two-time AMA national champion.
  • Max Ruml — Three-time AMA national champion and major contender.

The match-up pits seasoned veterans against newcomers, and U.S. riders who race predominantly at home against European superstars who travel in specifically for this event.

Format and fan experience

The competition follows the Grand Prix style: 20 heat races to accumulate points, two semi-finals, and a final where the winner takes all. Every heat lasts 4 laps.
For spectators, the venue offers a dramatic vantage: a fully-covered arena atop a hill, seating for over 5,000, and the roar of motorcycles up close adds to the thrill.

Why this event matters

While motorcycle speedway has a strong following in Europe, it’s relatively rare in the U.S. to see so many elite international riders competing on American soil. As track director Kelly Inman noted: “Speedway is experiencing a resurgence in the U.S.… the significance of this event for speedway racing in this country is incredible.”
For southern California fans, it’s a chance to witness world-class racing in their backyard, far from the usual European circuits.
