Shia LaBeouf Arrested After Alleged Fight in New Orleans During Mardi Gras

Shia LaBeouf was arrested early Tuesday morning in New Orleans after police say he was involved in a physical altercation during Mardi Gras festivities, capping what witnesses described as an extended and increasingly chaotic weekend in the city.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, officers responded shortly after midnight to reports of a disturbance at a business on Royal Street. Authorities allege the actor became aggressive and fought with two men who later told police they had been assaulted.

LaBeouf was subsequently charged with two counts of simple battery.

Incident at R Bar in Faubourg Marigny

The altercation took place at R Bar, a well-known neighborhood bar located in the Faubourg Marigny district. The venue, known for its offbeat promotions — including a Monday night haircut-and-shot special — was crowded as Mardi Gras celebrations carried into the night.

Police reports state that a staff member attempted to remove LaBeouf from the premises after he allegedly caused a disturbance. Once outside, he is accused of striking one man multiple times with closed fists.

Authorities say LaBeouf briefly left the area but returned soon after, appearing more agitated. According to the report, several individuals tried to restrain him in an effort to de-escalate the situation. When he was released “in hopes that he would leave,” officers allege he resumed hitting the same individual and then punched another man in the nose.

Witnesses reportedly held him down until officers arrived.

LaBeouf was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries before being formally arrested.

Video Surfaces Online

Later Tuesday, TMZ published video it said was recorded prior to police arrival. The footage appears to show LaBeouf on the ground while another individual strikes him repeatedly across the face. In the background, bystanders can be heard urging him to calm down.

The video does not show the moments leading up to the confrontation, and it remains unclear what sparked the altercation.

A Weekend of Bar Stops

The arrest follows several days of reported bar-hopping across New Orleans during the height of Mardi Gras celebrations.

Employees at multiple establishments in the city’s Uptown neighborhood said LaBeouf had been frequenting bars since Thursday. At Ms. Mae’s, a 24-hour dive bar along the parade route, staff described the actor as visibly intoxicated and at times confrontational.

He reportedly arrived Sunday evening as the Bacchus super-krewe parade moved through St. Charles Avenue, drawing thousands of revelers. According to a doorman, LaBeouf appeared without a shirt and without cash. He was told to put his shirt back on and was eventually asked to leave after attempting what witnesses described as a “celebrity bartender” routine.

“He did the ‘Do you know who I am?’ bit,” the doorman said, adding that LaBeouf ultimately departed without further incident.

Another bartender who served him earlier in the weekend claimed the actor had been visiting multiple bars throughout the city, at one point telling patrons he was staying in a luxury Airbnb.

Sobriety Claims Resurface

The arrest comes amid LaBeouf’s recent public statements about sobriety and accountability. In past interviews, the actor has acknowledged struggles with alcohol and described how substance abuse contributed to destructive behavior and strained professional relationships.

In recent months, he had indicated he was working toward stability and distancing himself from the controversies that have periodically overshadowed his career.

Tuesday’s arrest may once again draw attention to the actor’s long history of legal troubles, including prior arrests for disorderly conduct and public intoxication in other cities.

Legal Next Steps

Under Louisiana law, simple battery is defined as the intentional use of force or violence upon another person without their consent. The charge is typically classified as a misdemeanor but can carry fines and possible jail time depending on the circumstances and prior history.

It remains unclear whether LaBeouf has secured legal representation or when he is expected to appear in court.

As Mardi Gras celebrations continue in New Orleans, the incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly festivities can spiral out of control — even for celebrities accustomed to public scrutiny.

For now, LaBeouf’s weekend in the Crescent City has ended not with beads and parades, but with criminal charges and renewed questions about his personal struggles.
