Bentley Torcal: 888-PS Electric SUV Unveiled
The Bentley Torcal has officially been unveiled as Bentley’s first fully electric production vehicle, marking a major new chapter for the British luxury automaker. Revealed in London on September 23, 2026, the new electric SUV combines Bentley’s traditional design language and handcrafted interior with a dual-motor electric powertrain capable of producing up to 888 PS.
The Bentley Torcal arrives with a 113 kWh battery, an 800-volt electrical architecture and a claimed WLTP range of up to 375 miles, or about 600 kilometers. It can also accept up to 400 kW of DC fast-charging power.
Rather than creating an EV that looks radically different from the rest of its lineup, Bentley has taken a more conservative approach. The Torcal retains recognizable elements from the brand’s combustion-powered models while introducing a new design direction that Bentley says will influence future vehicles.
The new SUV becomes Bentley’s fourth model line, joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. It is designed, engineered and built in Crewe, England.
Bentley Torcal Marks a New Electric Era
Bentley has discussed an electric vehicle for years. The company explored the idea of a smaller electric SUV as far back as 2017 before confirming in 2024 that its first EV would arrive in 2026. The Torcal now brings that long-running plan into production.
The timing is significant for Bentley and the wider ultra-luxury car market. Several established luxury brands have been cautious about moving entirely into battery-electric vehicles because of questions surrounding customer demand.
Reuters reported that Bentley previously delayed its first EV and abandoned an earlier target of becoming fully electric by 2030, citing concerns that customers were not yet ready for the transition.
The Torcal therefore represents more than another addition to Bentley’s lineup. It is also an attempt to demonstrate that an electric vehicle can retain the character, craftsmanship and visual identity expected from a century-old luxury brand.
Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser told Reuters that the company’s intention was to make a Bentley first rather than create a vehicle that felt completely different simply because it uses electric power.
Bentley Torcal Design Brings a New Face
The Bentley Torcal is approximately five meters long, making it the brand’s shortest four-door model. Despite its relatively compact positioning within the Bentley family, it offers practical storage with a 460-liter rear trunk and an additional 90-liter front trunk.
Its exterior combines a long wheelbase with short overhangs. One of the most distinctive elements is an illuminated diamond grille that draws inspiration from Bentley’s Continental T.
The Torcal is also the first Bentley to feature the company’s redesigned emblem, giving the electric SUV an important role in establishing the visual identity of future models.
At the front, the vehicle uses lighting elements that preserve the appearance of a traditional Bentley grille even though an electric powertrain does not require the same cooling arrangement as a combustion engine.
That approach reflects the broader strategy behind the vehicle. Bentley is transitioning to electric propulsion without abandoning the visual cues that existing customers associate with the brand.
Two Bentley Torcal Versions Will Launch
Bentley is introducing the Torcal in two versions, giving buyers a choice between strong performance and an even more powerful S specification.
The standard Bentley Torcal produces 821 PS, equivalent to 810 horsepower, and generates 1,194 Nm of torque. Bentley says it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph.
The Torcal S increases output to 888 PS, or 876 horsepower, with 1,350 Nm of torque when Launch Control is activated. It can reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 2.8 seconds and has a 162-mph top speed.
The figures make the Torcal S one of the more powerful luxury electric SUVs entering the market.
However, Bentley has deliberately avoided chasing extreme acceleration figures. The company’s current approach differs from earlier ambitions for its first EV, which had included much higher output and a 1.5-second 0-to-60-mph target under former CEO Adrian Hallmark.
Bentley says the acceleration was intentionally limited because extremely aggressive launches can be uncomfortable for many customers.
The S version also receives visual upgrades, including black exterior trim, darker taillights, a rear diffuser, red brake calipers and standard 22-inch wheels. The standard model uses 21-inch wheels.
Bentley Torcal Battery and Range
Underneath the body, the Bentley Torcal uses a 113 kWh net battery pack with an 800-volt electrical system.
The battery contains 192 lithium-ion pouch cells. Bentley is providing a 10-year or 100,000-mile warranty for the battery pack.
The company quotes a maximum WLTP range of 375 miles, equivalent to roughly 600 kilometers.
That figure is important because range remains one of the biggest considerations for customers moving from gasoline-powered luxury vehicles to electric cars.
However, the 375-mile number is based on the European WLTP testing cycle. A U.S. EPA rating has not yet been released, and EPA results are commonly lower than equivalent WLTP figures.
The final U.S. range rating will therefore provide a more useful benchmark for American buyers once testing is completed.
400 kW Fast Charging Gives the Torcal a Boost
Charging performance is another major feature of the Bentley Torcal.
The electric SUV supports DC fast charging at up to 400 kW. Bentley says the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 16 minutes, while approximately 100 miles of range can be added in seven minutes under suitable charging conditions.
There is a slight discrepancy in Bentley’s launch information. Electrek noted that while the headline charging specification indicates a 16-minute 10-to-80% session, the company’s press material also describes the same process as taking just under 20 minutes.
The underlying hardware is closely related to technology used elsewhere within the Volkswagen Group.
The Porsche Cayenne Electric also uses a 113 kWh battery, an 800-volt electrical system and charging capability of up to 400 kW.
That shared technology gives the Bentley a high-performance EV foundation while allowing the company to focus its own engineering efforts on the driving experience, luxury features and Bentley-specific design.
Fully Active Suspension Is a Bentley First
The Bentley Torcal introduces another important first for the company: fully active suspension.
Each corner of the vehicle can be raised or lowered independently. The system allows Bentley to eliminate traditional anti-roll bars while providing greater control over the vehicle’s body movements.
All-wheel steering is also standard. Bentley says the system reduces the turning circle to 11.1 meters, which can make the large luxury SUV easier to maneuver in urban environments.
This technology is particularly relevant to Bentley’s effort to combine comfort with performance.
Electric vehicles are naturally capable of producing strong acceleration because electric motors deliver torque quickly. However, a luxury Bentley also needs to provide a controlled and comfortable ride.

Bentley Torcal Uses a Synthetic V8-Inspired Sound
One of the more unusual aspects of the Bentley Torcal is its approach to sound.

Bentley has responded by creating what it calls the Bentley Dynamic Symphony.
The soundtrack was created using recordings of musicians playing drums, viola and bass guitar. Bentley says the sound is inspired by the rhythm of its 6.75-liter V8 engine and changes according to vehicle speed and torque demand. Drivers can also switch the sound off.
Reuters described the system as an attempt to recreate the feeling of a V8 through a soundtrack based around orchestral timpani and other drums.
The feature highlights the unusual challenge facing traditional luxury automakers. They are not simply replacing gasoline engines with batteries. They are also attempting to preserve some of the emotional elements associated with their vehicles.
High-Tech Bentley Torcal Interior
Inside, the Bentley Torcal combines digital technology with traditional luxury materials.
The dashboard features curved OLED displays, while an augmented-reality head-up display provides information in the driver’s field of view.
Facial recognition can be used to load individual driver profiles. The vehicle also includes four Experience Modes: Bentley, Comfort, Sport and Refresh.
These modes can change elements such as cabin lighting, sound, climate settings and displays.
Despite the extensive digital technology, Bentley has retained physical controls on the steering wheel and center console.
The interior also introduces new materials designed specifically for the Torcal.
Bentley says the vehicle is the first automotive application of a 100% Merino wool fabric developed with Somerset-based weaver Fox Brothers. The cabin can also feature an Ombré Walnut veneer created from walnut offcuts and recycled paper.
That combination reflects Bentley’s traditional approach to craftsmanship while giving the Torcal a distinct identity within the company’s range.
Advanced Driver Assistance and Luxury Features
The Bentley Torcal also comes equipped with an extensive collection of sensors and driver-assistance hardware.
Bentley says the SUV uses 25 radars, sensors and cameras to support driver-assistance functions and remote parking.
The vehicle also features four powered doors that can open and close automatically, along with a switchable-glass sunroof.
For audio enthusiasts, an optional 1,780-watt Naim system with 28 speakers is available.
These features reinforce the Torcal’s positioning as a high-end luxury vehicle rather than simply a performance-focused electric SUV.
Bentley Torcal Targets New Luxury EV Buyers
The launch also has an important commercial objective.
Reuters reported that the Torcal starts at £173,000, or about $230,000 based on the exchange rate cited in its report. That places the model toward the lower end of Bentley’s existing price range.
Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser described the vehicle as a more accessible entry point into the brand that could open new markets.
The company has already been presenting the vehicle to existing and potential customers in Europe, the Middle East and the United States. Reuters reported that roughly half of the interest Bentley has seen comes from existing customers, while the other half comes from people who are new to the brand.
China is also expected to become an important market, with Bentley planning a launch campaign there next year.
The strategy gives the Torcal a dual role. It needs to attract Bentley customers who want an electric vehicle while also introducing the brand to wealthy buyers who may not previously have considered Bentley.
£350 Million Investment Supports Bentley Torcal Production
Bentley is also putting significant money into its British manufacturing operations.
The company has invested £350 million, approximately $465 million, in its Crewe plant to support Torcal production.
The investment comes at a time when the British automotive industry is undergoing a major transition toward electrification.
For Bentley, producing the Torcal in Crewe allows the company to maintain an important connection between its electric future and its traditional manufacturing base.
