Shedeur Sanders Named Backup QB for Browns Ahead of Steelers Game, Coach Stefanski Confirms

BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be the immediate backup to starter Dillon Gabriel in Sunday’s highly anticipated game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Coach Kevin Stefanski announced on Friday that Sanders, a fifth-round draft pick from the University of Colorado, has earned the No. 2 quarterback spot on the depth chart. This positioning puts Sanders just one play away from making his NFL debut during the divisional matchup.

“Shedeur has shown tremendous growth and readiness in practice,” Stefanski said. “We believe he’s prepared to step in if needed and contribute to the team’s success.”

Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, was selected for his poise, accuracy, and ability to read defenses. His placement as QB2 reflects the coaching staff’s confidence in his ability to handle live-game situations, especially in a high-pressure environment such as the Browns-Steelers rivalry.

Gabriel, the team’s starting quarterback, has been the Browns’ primary signal-caller this season. However, with the team facing a physical Steelers defense known for forcing turnovers, having Sanders as a reliable backup provides Cleveland with a strategic safety net.

Fans will be watching closely Sunday as Sanders remains ready on the sidelines, potentially making a significant early career impact against one of the Browns’ fiercest opponents.
