IndiGo Launches Direct Flights from Kolkata to Cambodia Starting November 13
| October 4, 2025

In a move expected to strengthen tourism and economic ties between India and Cambodia, IndiGo, India’s largest airline by passenger volume, has announced the launch of direct flights between Kolkata and Siem Reap, starting November 13.
The new route will be operated using the airline’s modern Airbus A320neo aircraft, with services running three times a week, according to an official company statement. Ticket bookings for the route have already opened.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
This marks IndiGo’s seventh international destination from Kolkata, further cementing the city’s growing position as a strategic aviation hub for Southeast Asia.
Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, emphasized the broader significance of the new route.
“With rising travel demand between the two countries, fuelled by convenient visa rules and growing trade, we are confident these flights will not only boost tourism but also open new avenues for cultural exchange and economic cooperation,” said Elbers.
The move comes at a time when regional air connectivity is seeing renewed focus across Asia, driven by increasing demand for post-pandemic international travel and trade.
Kolkata–Siem Reap: A Cultural Gateway
The new direct route connects two culturally rich cities: Kolkata, often called India’s cultural capital, and Siem Reap, the gateway to Cambodia’s world-renowned Angkor Wat temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tourism boards in both nations have welcomed the decision, anticipating a spike in tourist arrivals and easier access for travelers, entrepreneurs, and students.
Travel experts say the new flights will make it significantly easier for Indian tourists to explore Cambodia, which is increasingly positioning itself as a key destination in Southeast Asia.
Likewise, Cambodian travelers and businesspeople will benefit from seamless access to eastern India and beyond through IndiGo’s domestic network.
IndiGo’s Expanding Global Ambitions
Founded in 2006, IndiGo has grown into a global aviation heavyweight, operating a fleet of more than 410 aircraft, predominantly from the Airbus A320neo family. The airline manages over 2,200 daily flights, connecting 127 destinations worldwide — a mix of both domestic and international cities.
The carrier has made international expansion a clear priority in recent years. With an order book that represents the world’s largest for new aircraft, IndiGo is aggressively positioning itself for the next phase of global growth.
The addition of Cambodia to its international map reflects this strategy, adding to existing Southeast Asian destinations like Bangkok, Hanoi, and Kuala Lumpur.
A Boost for Trade, Tourism, and Diplomacy
The new Kolkata–Siem Reap flight is more than just a new travel option — it’s also a potential economic catalyst. With India and Cambodia enjoying strong diplomatic relations, the ease of connectivity is likely to stimulate both bilateral trade and people-to-people exchange.
Cambodia’s easing of visa restrictions and efforts to attract more Indian tourists are also key factors supporting the timing of this launch.
Industry analysts suggest that Siem Reap’s increasing popularity among Indian travelers — especially heritage enthusiasts and spiritual tourists — makes the route commercially viable from the outset.
Looking Ahead
As global aviation slowly recovers from pandemic-era disruption, IndiGo’s calculated expansion into under-served international routes sets it apart from many competitors. By tapping into fast-growing markets and cultural corridors, the airline is betting on sustained long-term demand.
For travelers in both India and Cambodia, the new flight is a welcome step toward easier travel, deeper connections, and new opportunities.
