Cambodia Pledges to Join Board of Peace During US Navy Ship Docking at Ream Naval Base

Cambodia will join the Board of Peace after accepting an invitation from US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Hun Manet said on January 26, 2026, during the first docking of a US Navy warship at Ream Naval Base.

Hun Manet made the announcement while meeting Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command, as the USS Cincinnati arrived at the Cambodian naval facility. He said Cambodia’s participation reflects its commitment to global peace and constructive international engagement.

Admiral Paparo thanked Cambodia for allowing the US Navy ship to dock at Ream, describing the visit as a sign of strengthening military ties between the two countries.

“The arrival of a US Navy ship in Cambodia is a tangible result of the growing bilateral relationship,” Hun Manet said.

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Cambodia’s respect for the ceasefire agreement with Thailand reached in Kuala Lumpur in October 2025, emphasizing Phnom Penh’s preference for resolving the border dispute through peaceful means.

Paparo highlighted the role of the ASEAN Observer Team in monitoring the ceasefire and said the United States continues to support efforts to advance border demarcation through the Joint Border Commission.

The USS Cincinnati’s visit marks a notable step in improving US-Cambodia relations amid broader regional security discussions.
