Unverified Video Shows Thai Military Allegedly Invading Civilian Home in Tmor Da
An unverified video that has gone viral on social media allegedly depicts Thai military personnel entering a civilian home in Tmor Da, a region located in Cambodia’s Pursat province, during an ongoing border conflict. The footage, posted on December 20, shows what appears to be five soldiers pointing a gun at the premises despite the house being abandoned after its residents evacuated.
In the video, the soldiers seem to make threats of violence while inside the civilian home, sparking outrage on social media platforms. The images accompanying the post show Thai soldiers positioned behind the house, suggesting the military presence in the area is intensifying.

While the authenticity of the footage has not been confirmed, experts have raised concerns about the incident, which could violate international humanitarian law. According to the Legal Information Institute, the Third Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, “no soldier shall, in time of peace, be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, except in a manner prescribed by law.” This principle is echoed in international law, where the protection of civilians during conflict is paramount.
Ongoing Border Conflict and Violent Escalation
The Tmor Da area has been a hotbed of conflict since the outbreak of fighting on December 7, when clashes between Cambodian and Thai forces erupted along the disputed border. The situation has escalated, with reports of heavy casualties and widespread destruction.
On December 20, Cambodian authorities reported that Thai F-16 fighter jets launched two bombs that destroyed a primary school in the region. The Ministry of Defence condemned the attack as a “brutal and indiscriminate” assault that violated international law. “The brutal actions above are an indiscriminate attack by the Thai military, a serious violation of international humanitarian law,” a ministry spokesperson stated.
As of the latest reports, the border conflict has claimed the lives of at least 18 Cambodian civilians and injured 79 others. More than half a million people have been forced to evacuate from their homes, creating a humanitarian crisis in the region.
International Concerns and Diplomatic Pressure
The video has further intensified international concerns about the ongoing conflict, drawing calls for greater accountability and respect for human rights from both governments involved. Human rights organizations have urged both Thailand and Cambodia to abide by the rules set forth by the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit attacks on civilian populations and demand that military forces distinguish between combatants and civilians.
In addition, international legal experts have expressed that actions such as those depicted in the unverified video, if proven to be accurate, would represent significant breaches of international laws protecting civilians during wartime. The United Nations has yet to release an official statement on the incident, but diplomats are closely monitoring developments as the situation continues to unfold.
As the border conflict enters its 13th day, both sides appear entrenched, with little indication of a ceasefire or resolution in sight. Cambodian authorities have vowed to continue their defense of the nation’s sovereignty, while the Thai government has yet to issue a statement regarding the allegations of military misconduct.
The humanitarian crisis continues to grow, with thousands of civilians caught in the crossfire of the ongoing violence. As the international community watches closely, pressure is mounting on both Thailand and Cambodia to de-escalate tensions and respect international norms for the protection of civilians during conflict.
