Cambodian PM Hun Manet Holds Talks With Malaysia and U.S. Leaders to Reinforce Cambodia–Thailand Ceasefire

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has engaged in high-level diplomatic talks with leaders from Malaysia and the United States to strengthen efforts toward a ceasefire in the ongoing Cambodia–Thailand border conflict, reaffirming his commitment to peaceful resolution through dialogue.

In separate telephone discussions, Hun Manet spoke with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. President Donald Trump. These conversations focused on de-escalating hostilities and returning to the framework outlined in the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, a pact between Cambodia and Thailand aimed at halting border clashes and restoring stability.

Hun Manet emphasized Cambodia’s consistent pursuit of a peaceful approach to resolving the dispute in accordance with the existing ceasefire commitments. He highlighted the importance of multilateral support — especially from Malaysia, as the ASEAN Chair, and from the United States, as an influential external partner — in maintaining diplomatic momentum and preventing further escalation.

President Trump, in his own statements following the talks, reiterated that both Cambodia and Thailand agreed to halt all shooting, with the objective of reinstating the prior ceasefire arrangements. He also underscored the role played by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in facilitating these discussions.

The renewed diplomatic push comes amid recent flare-ups along the long-disputed border, where tensions have persisted despite multiple attempts at ceasefire and peace negotiations earlier in the year. Regional leaders and international partners continue to press for sustained dialogue to prevent further humanitarian and security repercussions for communities on both sides
