Cambodian Troops Retake Boeung Trakoun Border Checkpoint, Raise National Flag

Cambodian military forces have regained control of the Boeung Trakoun border checkpoint in Thma Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province, reaffirming national sovereignty amid renewed clashes along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

According to reports, Cambodian troops secured the strategic crossing earlier today and raised the Cambodian flag at the site, symbolising the restoration of authority after recent tensions in the area.

The border region around Boeung Trakoun has been a focal point of ongoing friction in the wider 2025 Cambodia–Thailand conflict, with both sides alternating control of key positions as fighting and diplomatic disputes continue.

Cambodian defence officials released video footage showing soldiers moving into the checkpoint, coordinating their advance and securing perimeter positions before placing the national flag visibly atop the facility. This action underscores Cambodia’s commitment to protecting territorial integrity amid fluctuating frontlines.

The development comes amid broader clashes and military operations along the border, where both countries have accused each other of violations and escalations. As the situation evolves, international observers and ASEAN stakeholders continue to watch for diplomatic progress and efforts to de-escalate conflict
