Thai Defence Minister Rules Out Ceasefire Amid Continued Border Clashes

Thailand’s Defence Minister has confirmed that no ceasefire order will be issued to the Royal Thai Armed Forces until Cambodia clearly ends its hostile actions against Thailand, underscoring the ongoing volatility along the disputed border.

In a formal statement, the Thai military leadership clarified that the government has not instructed its forces to stand down, rejecting reports of an agreed ceasefire despite international efforts to mediate a halt in fighting. The statement emphasized that any pause in military operations requires a clear and verifiable cessation of hostilities by Cambodian forces first.

This announcement comes amid intense fighting between Thailand and Cambodia along their longstanding contested border, which has seen exchanges of heavy weapons and airstrikes in recent days. Both sides continue to accuse each other of initiating attacks, even after an earlier peace agreement brokered in October under international auspices.

Thailand’s caretaker Prime Minister also publicly rejected claims of a new ceasefire deal, stating the country will continue military actions until it no longer perceives a threat to its sovereignty and people. Meanwhile, Cambodia reportedly welcomed international proposals for a ceasefire and has expressed interest in de-escalation efforts.

Regional leaders, including Malaysia’s prime minister, have called for restraint and a cessation of hostilities, urging both sides to consider diplomatic channels. However, Thailand’s defence stance remains firm: no official ceasefire will be declared until Cambodia demonstrates a complete end to hostile operations
