Jake Paul Dwarfed by Anthony Joshua in Intense Heavyweight Boxing Face-Off

Miami, Florida — YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul brushed off concerns about size, power, and experience as he stood dramatically overshadowed by former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua during their first face-off on Friday. The pair will headline an eight-round heavyweight showdown streamed globally on Netflix on December 19, a matchup that has already stirred debate throughout the boxing world.

Despite the staggering difference in size — and pedigree — Paul insisted the moment would not damage his brand. Instead, he declared it would propel him into boxing history with what he predicts will be one of the sport’s most shocking upsets.

Standing at 6’1″ (1.85m), Paul looked noticeably smaller next to the 6’6″ (1.98m) Joshua, a man who has spent his entire professional career fighting elite heavyweights. But none of this appeared to shake Paul’s confidence.

“I’m here to shock the world,” Paul said as cameras rolled at the Kaseya Center. “People say I’m out of my mind. But I’ve always succeeded through delusional optimism. No one thinks I’m going to win, so join the list — and be ready to be shocked.”

Paul went even further, predicting a knockout victory in the fifth round — a bold claim considering the Californian has never fought a prime, full-sized heavyweight. His past opponents include retirees, crossover athletes, and much smaller fighters, but never someone with Joshua’s résumé.

A Growing Debate Over Fairness

The matchup has raised questions across the boxing community. The size disparity was impossible to ignore as Joshua towered over Paul on stage. Traditionally weighing around 250 pounds in previous heavyweight bouts, Joshua has been medically capped at a maximum of 245 pounds for this fight. Paul, a career cruiserweight, is expected to enter at around 200 pounds.

Paul, however, suggests the size difference could even work in his favor.

“Fighting a smaller man is harder for a heavyweight,” he claimed. “It’s the angles, the foot speed. All that power is great, but I just have to avoid one shot. I know I can pick him apart and score points.”

Joshua: ‘I Need to Cut Him Up’

For Joshua, the December clash marks his return to the ring after a tough year. The British heavyweight has not fought since suffering a fifth-round knockout loss against Daniel Dubois in September 2024 and undergoing subsequent elbow surgery.

After a year of recalibration, the 36-year-old insisted he is now fully locked in.

“You can’t underestimate anyone,” Joshua said. “I’m taking him seriously. After a year out, I’ve realigned a lot in my life. I’ve got my focus back.”

Joshua acknowledged that anything less than a decisive victory will only intensify questions about his status among the division’s elite.

“I’ve seen it, I’ve heard it,” he said. “As I told Jake respectfully — I need to cut him up, break him up, and hurt him. That’s what we do.”

Paul’s Rise — Real or Manufactured?

Five years into his boxing journey, Jake Paul enters the fight with a 12-1 record. His most high-profile bout remains his eight-round decision victory over a 58-year-old Mike Tyson in 2024, an event that drew a massive 72,300 spectators at AT&T Stadium in Texas.

But critics argue that facing retired athletes and undersized opponents did little to prepare him for someone like Joshua — a fighter with Olympic gold, multiple world titles, and elite-level experience.

Still, Paul insists he has been underestimated before and insists this will be no different.

“I know what I’m capable of,” Paul said. “I’ve been proving people wrong for years.”

A Spectacle Waiting to Unfold

With Netflix broadcasting the fight globally and interest skyrocketing across social media, the bout is shaping up to be one of the most talked‑about events of the year — regardless of how the contest actually plays out.

Whether Paul can pull off the “Buster Douglas moment” he envisions, or whether Joshua will deliver the emphatic comeback statement he promises, the countdown to December 19 has already become box office gold.
