Denver’s New Women-Only Gym Reimagines Strength Training for Women’s Bodies

Denver, CO — Divine Feminine Fitness is changing the way women approach fitness. A brand-new, women-only gym in southeast Denver, it’s designed with one goal in mind: to help women feel comfortable, confident, and empowered as they work out.

The gym, co-owned by Carissa Gomez and Alex French, officially opened its doors last Saturday. Their grand opening marked the culmination of months of planning, hard work, and a shared vision to create a safe space for women in fitness.

“We’ve been working on this for so long, and it’s hard to believe it’s finally real,” says French, visibly moved by the accomplishment. “It’s surreal, but so rewarding.”

Building a Space Just for Women

Gomez and French, who met while working as personal trainers at a women’s gym in Kansas City, knew firsthand how difficult it could be for women to feel at ease in traditional, co-ed gyms.

“The environment in regular gyms can be intimidating for women,” Gomez explained. “The equipment isn’t always designed for our bodies, and the atmosphere can make you feel out of place, especially when you’re trying something new.”

So when the opportunity came to move to Denver and take over a gym space in need of a new direction, the two didn’t hesitate. By July, they had transformed a former CrossFit box into Divine Feminine Fitness, a gym designed specifically to address the needs of women. They even did much of the renovation work themselves — tearing down walls and redesigning the layout to create a space where women could feel comfortable and supported.

Focused on Women’s Needs

At Divine Feminine Fitness, every detail is crafted with women’s bodies in mind. From the equipment to the classes, everything is designed to make workouts more accessible, effective, and comfortable.

Traditional gym equipment is often made with men’s body proportions in mind, which can be uncomfortable or difficult for women to use. Gomez and French made sure to select machines with wider height ranges and better adjustability, so women of all sizes and body types can work out without making awkward adjustments.

“We wanted to create a space where women don’t have to struggle with equipment that isn’t made for their bodies,” French said. “It’s about making fitness feel achievable and comfortable.”

Programming for Women’s Bodies

Divine Feminine Fitness goes beyond just the equipment. The gym’s programs are also tailored to women’s unique needs. While men can often train the same way every day, women’s bodies fluctuate due to hormonal changes, making it important to adapt training to these shifts.

“Our programming takes into account those natural changes, like the hormonal fluctuations that affect energy and metabolism,” said French. “It’s all about making sure women can train safely and effectively, no matter where they are in their cycle.”

It’s a refreshing change from the typical “one-size-fits-all” approach often found in other gyms. And it’s something that’s resonating with women like Kylie Gray, a new member who’s already seen a difference.

Real Women, Real Results

Gray, who recently moved to Denver and works in a predominantly female field, had struggled with gym anxiety for years. “I used to feel so intimidated,” she shared. “I never knew where to start, and I was always afraid of looking out of place.”

But after trying a few classes and working with a personal trainer at Divine Feminine Fitness, Gray found the confidence to keep going. “This gym is different,” she said. “The atmosphere is so supportive. I’ve never felt more confident, and I’m actually hitting my fitness goals.”

A Movement, Not Just a Gym

For Gomez and French, the impact of Divine Feminine Fitness goes far beyond fitness. They see the gym as a catalyst for a larger movement, one where women empower other women — not just in the gym, but in all aspects of life.

“If we can help one woman feel better about herself, that confidence can spread,” Gomez said. “It’s about creating a ripple effect.”

The gym is about much more than just lifting weights. It’s about lifting each other up, too.

“We’ve put everything into this place,” French said. “But seeing the transformation in women’s lives makes it all worth it. The work, the late nights, it’s all worth it when we see the impact we’re having.”
