UK’s Prince Andrew Asked Police to Help Smear His Accuser, Newspaper Reports

A British newspaper has reported that Prince Andrew, formerly the Duke of York, asked the Metropolitan Police in 2011 to dig up personal information about Virginia Giuffre, his accuser.

According to the report, Andrew sent an email to a senior royal aide stating he had provided Giuffre’s date of birth and U.S. Social Security number and believed she had a criminal record in the United States. His accuser’s family denies she ever held such a record.

There is no suggestion in the report that a police officer acted on Andrew’s request. The Metropolitan Police have said they are “actively looking into” the claims.

This latest revelation comes days after Andrew announced he would relinquish the use of the Duke of York title amid years of criticism over his association with the late U.S. financier Jeffrey Epstein and the settlement of a lawsuit brought by Giuffre.

In response to the media report, a government official called the allegations “deeply concerning.”
