OpenAI Valuation Soars to $500 Billion After Share Sale

OpenAI has achieved a new valuation of $500 billion, following a secondary share sale in which current and former employees sold approximately $6.6 billion worth of shares.

This leap from its prior $300 billion valuation underscores the explosive growth in revenue and market confidence in AI-driven businesses.

Key Investors and Deal Structure

The share sale was facilitated by a consortium of investors including:

  • SoftBank
  • Thrive Capital
  • Dragoneer Investment Group
  • MGX (Abu Dhabi)
  • T. Rowe Price

Notably, SoftBank had previously participated in OpenAI’s $40 billion primary funding round. Reuters The company had also authorized over $10 billion in share sales on the secondary market.

Financial Momentum

OpenAI’s revenue performance has been strong. In the first half of 2025 alone, it generated about $4.3 billion, exceeding 2024’s total. That growth trajectory helped justify the revised valuation.

With tech companies increasingly competing for AI talent, this valuation also signals investor appetite for large-scale, high-potential AI ventures.
